Henry's 6 wifes and full details -

1.Queen Catherine of England née Catherine of Aragon (Spanish: Catalina de Aragón) (December 16, 1485 – January 7, 1536) was queen consort of England as Henry VIII of England's first wife. Henry tried to have their twenty-four year marriage annulled in part because all their male heirs apparent died in childhood, with only one of their six children, Princess Mary (later Queen Mary I) surviving as heir presumptive, at a time when there was no precedent for a woman on the throne. The Pope refused to allow the annulment of Henry's marriage to Catherine, which set off a chain reaction that led Henry to break with the Roman Catholic Church and his subsequent marriage to Anne Boleyn in the hope of fathering a male heir to continue the Tudor dynasty.

2. Queen Anne of England née Anne Boleyn, 1st Marchioness of Pembroke (ca. 1504-19 May 1536) second wife and Queen Consort of King Henry VIII and mother of Queen Elizabeth I.

Henry's divorce from Catherine of Aragon and marriage to Anne was part of the complex beginning of the considerable political and religious upheaval which was the English Reformation, with Anne herself actively promoting the cause of Church Reform. She wielded immense political influence and has been called "the most influential and important queen consort this country has ever had".

She is particularly remembered because she was beheaded on charges of adultery and treason on 19 May 1536. She was later celebrated as a martyr in English Protestant culture, particularly in the works of John Foxe.

3.Queen Jane of England née Jane Seymour (born c. 1507/1508 – d. 24 October 1537) was the third wife of King Henry VIII of England. She died of post-natal complications following the birth of her only son, Edward VI.

4.Queen Anne of England née Anne of Cleves also known as "The Flanders Mare" (see below) – was the fourth queen consort of Henry VIII of England from January 6, 1540 to July 9, 1540.

Anne was born on September 22, 1515, at Düsseldorf, the daughter of John III, ruler of the duchy of Cleves, who died in 1538. Then her brother was Duke of Jülich-Cleves-Berg, bearing the promising epithet "the Rich". Her elder sister Sybille was married to John Frederick, Elector of Saxony, head of the Protestant Confederation of Germany, the "Champion of the Reformation". William was a Catholic personally, but the family politics made them suitable allies for Henry in the aftermath of the Reformation, and the match was urged on the king by his chancellor, Thomas Cromwell. The artist Hans Holbein the Younger was dispatched to paint a portrait of Anne, and Henry was pleased with the result. It was usual for court painters to be flattering in their portrayal of important people, and it is likely that Holbein covered up the evidence of Anne's smallpox scars. The portrait is currently displayed in the Louvre. Anne and Henry were 7th cousins twice removed.

5.Queen Catherine of England née Catherine Howard (born between 1520 and 1525; died February 13, 1542) was the fifth queen consort of Henry VIII of England (1540-1542), and sometimes known by his reference to her as "the rose without a thorn." Her birth date and place of birth is unknown, (occasionally cited as 1521, probably in London). She was the daughter of Lord Edmund Howard, a poor younger son of 2nd Duke of Norfolk. Catherine married Henry VIII on July 28, 1540, at Oatlands Palace in Surrey, almost immediately after his divorce from Anne of Cleves was arranged. However, Catherine's marital conduct and past sexual history were known to be unchaste, and she was beheaded after less than two years of marriage on the grounds of treason.

6.Queen Catherine of England née Catherine Parr (c.1512 – 7 September 1548), was the Queen Consort of Henry VIII of England (1543–1547), the last of his six wives. Dowager Queen of England, she has a special place in history as the most married queen of England, having had four husbands in all.

Anne Boleyn...played hard to get and would not let Henry VIII bed her until she had that ring on her finger. But the Lady did Protest too much that she was an innocent and was later beheaded for her infedelities. The Queen he loved the most was Jane Seymour who died soon after giving birth to a much wanted son. He was the Heir to the throne but he died at the age of 14 from Consumption.

Henry wooed 4 of his 6 wives.

The first Katherine of Aragon, and 4th, Anne of Cleves, were diplomatic alliances.

Henry pursued the other wives Anne Boleyn (no2), Jane Seymour (no3), Katherine Howard (no5) and Catherine Parr (no6) himself.

But the one who took most woo-ing was probably Anne Boleyn. Henry tried very hard to have her as a mistress (lover) but she held out for marriage - which is why he broke away from the Roman Catholic Church in order to divorce Katherine of Aragon, plunging England into nearly two centuries of religious conflict, uprisings and civil war. I'm not sure that's really a romantic gesture (!) but he was determined to have her....

Your probably thinking of Anne Boleyn. She was in love with Henry Percy, but because Cardinal Wosley said he was beneath her and wouldn't allow the marriage she wanted revenge. When Henry pursued her she knew she didn't want to end up like her sister so she played hard to get. She held out for at least six years and finally got what she wanted. She didn't give him a son so they trumped up charges to get rid of her so he could be with Jane Seymour. The one that really didn't want to marry him, but felt she had to for the Catholic religion was Catherine Parr. She had been widowed twice by then and didn't want to get married again, but was talked into it by the man she loved Thomas Seymour, whom she ended up marrying after Henry and her and Thomas took care of Elizabeth until Catherine found her in compromising situations with Thomas who ended up being beheaded.

Henry's Third wife, Jane Seymour, also played hard to get, but probably got her cue from Anne Boleyn :)

Catherine Parr, a widow, wasn't all that keen on marrying Henry, who by then was riddled with syphilis. Probably why she was the one who survived. Women from the Lake District are tough cookies. Great survivors, and we know what's good for us.

He did woo 4 of his wives, though I think the one you are after is Anne Boleyn (his second wife). He even gave her a title .. She ended up having the title of the Earl of Penbroke, a formerly male title henry resurrected.

I think you should do your own research as this is the perfect opportunity to learn how to use a Search engine, as there is so much information on this topic that you can't go wrong.

Of course you can just cut & paste from wiki - but is that the best way to find out the power of the web for yourself?

Anyone any idea how Henry VIII died, btw?

Um, that might have been Anne Bolyn, but I am not sure. I read a book on her and she was playing games with Henry so he'd want her.

SO yeah. It was probably Anne, second wife, mom of Elizabeth I.
