Yes, it leads to blindness. I can only see out of one eye now due to excessive consumption during my youth. If only Yahoo Answers had existed then!

I have heard different theories on this practise of eating boogers. Now lets make it quite clear first of all that I do not, I repeat DO NOT EAT MY BOOGERS!!!
I do know that most children practise this, and some adults also partake in this gross activity.....
I have heard that children do because it is natural for them (right of passage so to speak) because boogers have a substance in it that helps them with their immune system. eeewww maybe salt??
My son gets his hands wacked off his face when we catch him! and we tell him it is gross!
Most children will stop this gross activity by the time they are 7-8 years old.
As for the adults that continue this gross activity, they must have really weird taste buds and have absolutely disgusting habits!!

You have a normal population of several microbes that line in and around your nose and on your face that do not reside elsewhere in the body. An example is Staph aureus (lives on moist skin, (such as that around the nose and just inside the nares), and horrible infaction can result if this bug is introduced to an area where there aren't any natural defenses against it.
In basic theory, eating nose mucus really doens't cause much risk, and if it tastes good, hey, why not. Just make sure no one else it looking!!

It's basically the same thing as having mucus drain down the back of your throat, which happens all the time, so I would say no.

A child of four years had this habit and he had a lot of tooth caries. He was also prone to upper respiratory problems but this can be also attributed to other reasons.
