you may need to manual configure ip in your laptop.
but first start in your laptop Start > Run > cmd
at the command prompt type: ipconfig /all
make sure your laptop can communicate with your desktop by try to: ping x.x.x.x (replace with ip address of your laptop)

What kind of modem, DSL, Cablemodem?

You may need a Wireless router instead of Internet Connection sharing in that case.

If dialup you have something misconfigured.

Pleasen turn off the firewall on your laptop and PC after that it should work 100%........ Good luck and have fun.

after that you can make exceptions on the firewall settings to protect your self. if you don't know how to make exceptions please go to windows help,it will help you.
