The cable linking the control and the heater itself has kinked - they do this with age.

The job is relatively simple, but is fiddly and time-consuming.

To get to the back of the control, you first need to remove the radio. Unfortunately, this requires a pair of radio removal "thingies" - they look like little U-shaped wire handles and go in those holes at either side of the radio.

Then you need to undo the dashboard panel with the heater, radio and ashtray. You only need to pull it forward enough to get to the back of the controls. though.

To get to the other end, you need to remove one of the panels at the inner sides of one of the footwells.

A couple of tips: don't remove the cable from the control as soon as you remove the panel - making it move is a good way to locate it at the heater end. Also, feed the new cable through as you remove the old one, to make it sure it is routed correctly.

IIRC, the cable is only about £5 - £6 from your local Ford dealer's parts department.

It is the heater cable that has snapped. To remove the panel firstly remove the radio. There are two cross head screws , one on either side to remove. Then pull out the ashtray and cigarette lighgter surround. Remove the two screws that you can see. You should now be able to pull the pannel forward enough to unplug the wiring from the other heater controls. Remove the panel and you should now see the damaged wire. Mine broke in my car, I didnt want to pay fords price to replace it so i just improvised with some welding wire. You could o to a scrap yard thopugh. Hope this helps.
