We have recently brought our pet rabbit (who has lived in a clean hutch and had no communication with other rabbits/animals) inside in the hope to make him a house rabbit. We are trying to toilet train him and his box is kept in the bathroom. Both myself and my boyfriend have been sick (vomiting/diaroheea/stomach cramps) and we were wondering whether we may have picked up something from our rabbit.

Does anyone know if there are any diseases that can be passed from rabbit to human? or where I can find more information about it?

Good for you for bringing your bunny inside! He will be much happier and healthier.

There are some zoonotic diseases, which you can find at this site:

About the only one that we can transmit to them is herpes simplex.

The chance of catching anything from a domestic rabbit is slim to none. In wild rabbits, parasites are dominant ( some reaching 3 inches long and 1/2 inch wide (yea yuck!) I've seen this for myself and there's a virus that wild rabbits can get and transfer them to humans but you have to eat the rabbit, Here in the deserts of Arizona, rabbit hunting stops about the time it starts getting warm because of this. There's no season for rabbit hunting (you can hunt them all year round but people don't because of this virus but again, you have to eat the rabbit. I really don't think you and your boyfriend have anything to worrie about but if it concerns you, you can always ask your vet, maybe even a little blood work to put your minds at ease. good luck.

Colds most likely not but diseases that can pass from humans to animals and vice versa are called zoonotic diseases. One to be particularly careful of is tuberculosis.
