Jan answered this one pretty well the previous time you asked this question. It's not easy, it never will be.

If your home PC runs XP Pro the software is built in, if it's running XP Home or earlier it's not.

Read her answer follow the information you find. Remote Desktop Connection and VNC are the best options whether it's one time use or over and over.

Yes you can use remote desktop connection in windows xp.
first of all both PCs should have win xp or win 2000(i think it should be the same, i.e. xp or 2000 on both of the computers).
go to start->programs->accessories->communications->remote desktop connection and then you must know the ip address of the computer you are trying to access(you can ask it via the phone)
enter it and click connect and in some time you will be at the login screen on other computer .
enter the user name and password account(ask the other computer's owner to make a guest account without a password so that you may login otherwise he/she will have to share the password of the administrator or the default user with you)
