This person has begun painting in oils and thinks she is really good at it, but no one can understand why. The gift is a hideous painting of an alley in New York City, or so she says. I hope she doesn't read this question.

Oh yes! Luckily I have a reputation as a klutz....mostly because things like this get broken as soon as I get them! Drop it, accidentally spill something on it, whatever works! Just do it in front of her, make sure it is irreversible and if it keeps happening, perhaps she will realize you do not value her gifts enough to be extra careful with them and stop giving them to you!

Yes I displayed this collage I was given by a friend for a while and have since put it at the back of the cupboard.
Display it in a place where you will not see it, somewhere out of the way.

Remember beauty is in the eye of the beholder, she probably thinks it's ok. and it was a gift from her heart and probably would be hurt if you didn't at least display it for a little while.

Just put it up when they are there. Chances are there will be someone who likes it, cause everyone is different. I think its sweet that someone went through the trouble of painting for you!
I think the worst gifts are candles and ornaments. Argh!

you need a little cupboard to keep all unwanted gifts in, then when your friends turn up, you quickly take out the gifts and display them, then as soon as they have left, back in the cupboard!! hehe!
