i am the presient of a co-op. society. one of the memebr has circulated a notice saying that he has caught me red handed trying to defraud Rs.17000/-. i wnat to file defamation suit against him and claim a monitory compensation for the damages cuased to me by his false propaganda.

I think these things vary from state to state and you'll probably need an attorney unless it goes through small claims court then make sure you have physical evidence for proof of your claim ...calculate your estimated losses you might not get any more unless they allow punitive damages aside from losses
and court cost if u win Anyway I'd ask a lawyer for advise .....

you can claim whatever you like - it dont mean you will get it (and you certainly WONT get relocation compensation,or loss of future earning) Presumable you are suing for unfair dismissal first you have to show that you WERE unfairly dismissed. and "suspecting" what your ex-employer is doing is no good, you have to prove hes doing it Finally IF found in your favour the court will determine how much to award, - no doubt your calculations will be of interest, but dont rely on getting it

Also, many states provide for "statutory" damages, without needing to prove actual financial harm, where the defamation is in written form (libel). Check your local listings.
