Do not put stainless steel or any other types of kitchen knives on oil stones or any type of stone.
Find a store that sells "sharpening steels" and buy that. Use it carefully, a slip and you can be cut. Stones will take your knives down too much when all they need is a quick whet. I use steels and have for all my life. They look like a long rat's tail.

It can hone and edge and keep the blade sharp, but for basic sharpening, would take 3 years and a truckload of sponges.
A cotton ball can sharpen a steel edge, might take 100 years and all the cotton balls ever made, but its possible.

No.
To sharpen carbon and stainless steel blades you need
a wet stone in one or two grits. Use a fairly rough strone
to generate the basic shape of the knife edge, then switch to a fine grit stone to produce the final edge.
I use a light oil on the wet stone to make the edge really nice.

Maybe....in about 30 years. They make cheap sharpeners, try Home Depot or similar.
