I think you are born Gay or Straight to varying degrees, due to hormones and genes within you, when asked the question by my son What's a queer dad? I tried to explain by giving men and women a rating out of ten, a totally camp, openly gay man being 0 a bigoted, Neanderthal of a man being a 10 and the same for women 0 a very butch manly female 10 very girlie, wearing pink female. (please excuse the stereotype's but it was the best I could come up with at the time)
I then told him that I felt that I was a 6 on the man scale as I feel I have some female tendencies but am not attracted to men, his mother was also a 6 on the female scale as she wasn't into girls but liked football and some things that Men primarily like to do.
I then explained that some people are different and are lower on the scale this means that they are attracted more to people of there own sex having more hormones from the opposite sex, something to do with how you develop in the womb, as we all start out female at first.
He seemed to understand this, and as he his now 19 and has total respect for any Gay person that he meets, in fact having gay friends counted among his many mates, I like to think I did an OK job with regard explaining it.

What a daring subject to write about when homosexuality is illegal in your country! It is only through such bravery that such ignorance will eventually be overcome.
I think that homosexuality has nothing at all to do with the way in which you were raised but due to genetics. I believe that gay people are born gay and maybe it takes some time for them to come to terms with that fact. Just because your country doesn't accept homosexuality doesn't mean it doesn't exist. How desperately sad for anyone in a situation where they cannot be free to express how they really feel. Perhaps the parents in your story will never accept that their son is gay through fear created by ignorance and will therefore reject him. Maybe the girlfriend will initially be angry and humiliated but gradually come to terms with the situation and end up actively encouraging the man and supporting his decision as she is of the same generation and can see the torment that he is going through. Or something like that.
Good luck and I hope to see your story on Broadway some time.

If you want the science part, this may help. This may give you some interesting material.
There are several theories as to why a person is 'born' gay/bisexual. The most prominent I have read is a work by Simon Le Vay. He determined - through autopsy - that gay men and straight men have one single difference: the size of their hypothalamus (a gland in the middle of your brain and well known to be the source of sexual sitmulation in human beings). With gay men it is small and fluffy were as in straight men, it is solid and large. He repeated this experiment with lesbian and straight women and found the reverse. Straight women had small/fluffy gland were as lesbian has large/denser gland.
So hypothalamus size wise:
Gay men = Straight women
Lesbian women = Straight men
Following years of studies, he determined that this gland is developed before birth. When he examined pregnant mothers during period of pregnancy he found that this gland gets developed during the 6th month of pregnancy. If the mother body thinks she has a daughter, she would give Oestrogen (female hormone). If she thinks she has male son, she would give Testosterone (male hormone). For some un-explained reason, the mother would give the wrong hormone. Depending on how long this hormone is given, the child may come up as Bisexual, straight acting gay guy, camp gay guy, or in extreme cases transsexual (a person who believes he is in the wrong body!).
Research into how to determine why this switch happens has been blocked. From one side, the church and religious groups would not accept it (because this would mean centuries of prosecuting gay/lesbians was a crime but more importantly it is a serious shake to their belief). From the other side, gay groups have pressured government and other organisation not to proceed in such research because this would mean there is a way to eliminate gays from existence! Hosptial scans can determine if a mother has son/daugther and a simple blood test can deterimine what hormone the mother is giving. The latest work as done by an Italian scientist two years ago who tried to determine if the mother had a genetic differences that results in this switch and managed to find some correlation in that most mothers with gay/lesbian children had actually gay/lesbian brothers and sisters!
See it is much more complicated that this but I hope I explained to you in best possible way. And if you are wandering how a bisexual man/woman hypothalamus would look, well it is medium size/denisty, they got mix of hormones and thus they would like both!

The Story of homosexuality began when the human were created: Then the separation of femininity from masculinity brought about the cells a man and a woman.
Thus your character in your story, might as well be called Adam.
Jealousy of Cain has murdered his own brother Abel, as Abel was the most generous with his gifts to God.
Cain's gifts to God, were not to God's likeness: Not as God's, in the second creation of a man and a woman alike Cain was; As Cain was Adam's and Eve's first to be born, only God knows the gender of Cain.
Jealousy is the trademark of homosexuality. Cain became jealous for God, as it happened Abel was more a loving person.
So you might state in your story; that homosexuality is the greatest love story ever. Abstaining from it, is a sacrifice.
Cain could have offered as a sacrifice his own brother Abel, to God. The deed of Cain was in vain, as God told Cain: What have you done?
You see; there were no Ten Commandments yet. Thus everything was possible to happen, even homosexuality.
I know it all sounds crazy, but do you have a better explanation!

If anyone ever mentions God - ignore what they say - they are disqualified from intellectual debate simply because they cite references to fairy stories (religion) - obviously something wrong in their intellectual make-up.
How anyone DARE try to tell me I have made a choice, I cannot understand. No-one knows my thoughts, feelings and desires, and why ANYBODY would choose to be gay and incur the wrath and vile words of all the bigots out there, is beyond comprehension.
So you sick B******S keep your twisted opinions to yourself...you are wrong.

Homosexuality is an evolutionary, genetic and natural state of being, like being born with a set of blue eyes. It is not just about sex. A gay man can have ROMANTIC, EMOTIONAL, PSYCHIC and EROTIC connections with other men and can and DO FALL IN LOVE.

We really have to clear this up! We are not born gay or Bisexual! It is a choice we make. Something we chose to desire. Something we dare to try. God would not make us born gay when it's an abomination to him. Seriously people, ya know you chose to be gay. I'd try it to. I enjoy watching porn with guys and girls and I'd love to have another woman in with my hubby at least once to try it out. I'm not going to cry out and say I was born gay cuz of it. Woman are very sexy and are a turn on in many ways. Short mini skirts, thong underwear that stick out the top, no bra's and their nipples are hard through their shirts and some piercings and or tattoos are sexy. I have eyes as a woman also. I wasn't born gay though. I see things as I mature and I have decided what's sexy and what I'd like to try out or not. I've never been with another woman yet but am open to it. Now you need to admit you are just as curious and this is not all about a so called story or play you are writing. Is it?

Write about stuff you know. Why would you want to write a story about something you have no knowledge of?
