Ok, I have to make a decison on giving someone a job as my assistant. Both girls are as capable as each other.... although the men in my office are begging me to employ the pretty girl over the plainer girl.....
Do I make my male colleagues happy and hire the pretty girl and let them have a little eye candy or would this just be pandering to their immature needs?
Or should I just toss a coin....

Wow the guys you work with are so shallow, just because someone hasn't got the looks doesn't mean they should be over looked for a job, looks fade, good workers are hard to come by, maybe the pretty one will spend too much time flirting and doing little work, but she might be just what your looking for, the plain one might be super efficient and look stunning when dressed up to the nines, guess your going to have to toss that coin.

Hire the plain girl. If their qualifications are that well evenly matched, you will have less trouble dealing with the plain girl, as she won't evoke as much of a response from your co-workers. Also, another thing against the pretty girl is, if she starts flirting or is flirted with, and then things with her and the other worker do not work out, the company could face a sexual harassment charge (which could happen with either girl, but more likely to happen with the pretty one).
The plain one will also not intimidate any other female workers in the office, and might forge friendships with the other females, bringing more efficiency and group effort to the office as a whole.
The plain ones are often overlooked and dismissed out of hand, but give her a chance - she could become a large asset to the office if her spirit of business is nurtured and encouraged in the right ways.
And finally just remember - looks aren't always everything - they fade with time (unless you're rich and can afford plastic surgery) so while the pretty girl might stay pretty for a while, the plain girl can be depended on to at least not become an eyesore to the office.

Be honest...... they can't possibly be exactly the same with regards their skills!
You need to look at the qualifications again and pick the one best able to assist you in your job (is that not the point of employing an assistant), not which one will please the horny twits sitting in the same office.
Just think if you pick the pretty one just for the looks and not because she is the best person for the job you will not only have to work harder to make up for the lack of proper assistance but you will have to spend time keeping the males from distracting her all the time with cheesy chat up lines. On the flip side she might be very professional and you can only know this by her C.V and interview skills not the way they either look at the interview.
Pick the one which will work well with YOU in her roll as an assistant to make your job easier - go on you know it makes sense!!!

Plain girl definitely as pretty ones usually get a bit of extra help anyway so the plain is the underdog. Also it will help for a more efficient office as nobody is trying to score points with the plain girl. Or, and you get the best of both, accept the plain girl then give her a makeover over time and take all the credit for giving the guys some eye candy and she will think that you are the bees knees. problem solved.

Probably but not definitely the plain one, the pretty one would distract your male colleagues and they'd probably end up flirting with her and vice versa! And choosing the pretty one would be unfair to the plain one because you only chose her to entertain your male colleagues. Or look at their attitudes: if they both have great skills, how do they feel towards work? Will one just laze around and cram? Does one cooperate easily with others? Hope this helps :-)

pick the plain one, as much as i would want the hot one, all she would do is distract the guys. By putting a plainer chick there, you're not only going to be shown the real men who dont care about the looks but you wont feel guilty.

if you hire someone just to appease a few immature people then it will lead to work inefficiences due to the fact that the guys won't work as well. And if there are women there then jealously would lead them in to a soap opera where it could become rage.
Hire the most qualified only. If it turns out to be the pretty one then do it.

The focus of the male employee's should be on thier work not thier play which is what would happen if you employed the pretty girl but on the same token they are not doing the pretty one any favour's if it's going to lead your choosing one way or the other. GET AN AMICABLE REASON FOR YOUR CHOICE AND NOT WHETHER SHE IS PRETTY OR NOT.

hire the plain jane girl so that the male colleagues would be forced to do their jobs because they have nothing to look at.
IF you hire someone beautiful, it's distracting to the job and it will cause chaos because men will probably want to go out with this pretty girl and they will probably get competitive with each other instead of focusing on their work.

If they are equally qualified, flip a coin. Hiring someone because they are beautiful or because they are plain is wrong. You wouldn't hire somebody based on some other physical thing like race would you? No different.
