Character is one of the words we all know, but if you ask someone what is a character it will be difficult to answer.
One good definition is: "Character is what you do when noone is looking at you". What we show to other people is just a social formality. The real thing is what is in our minds and hearts. When we are alone and we think that nobody is watching and we think 'Ha, now I can be myself!" - that's what we really are.
Another good definition of character I've heard is(paraphrazing):
Our thoughts form what we speak. Our words result in our deeds. Through our deeds we form our habits. Our habits build our character. And from our character our culture sprouts.
I don't know if this answers your question, mataji!

Simply put, stuff is just stuff. Ever moved? You quickly find out how expendible worldly possessions are.
Better yet... ever had to dispose of the worldly goods of a deceased loved one? My father died last year. I am the only child, and he left no will. When people die, some bereaved hold on to their stuff as evidence of the deceased's life. For me, it was just stuff, and only gave trace evidence of the passing of the man. No one can be summed up by what we leave behind, so why would we use material possessions to attempt a definition during life?

Just as 'walking' itself is in the action, during the action, characteristics is the manifestation of character, so no further contents to constitute 'character has'... but contextually used interchangeably too.
