Funny to choose the name 'abigail' if you are a man which i presume you must be if you have a wife!
Your wife's stepdaughter is I presume a stepdaughter from a previous marriage? I ask this cos in MY marriage my husband's wife's stepdaughter is HIS daughter!!!
I'm not sure this question is for real, but if it is, then tell your poor wife as soon as possible, and i pity the stepdaughter who is probably a young woman who is confused and looking for a father figure. How to tell your wife? Just tell her, and be prepared for the sh*t to hit the fan in ALL aspects of your life from now on.

Surely if it your wife's step daughter that would make her your biological daughter. If so I hope your wife gets you locked up for incest and depending on her age, a whole lot more.
If this is not the case, then just tell your wife you don't love her anymore and you are leaving... You have committed one of the worst kind of betrayals... How could you, I take it you at one point also looked upon this girl as your child.
If the girl doesn't get along with her stepmother, have you considered she is doing this to hurt your wife and as soon as you have told her, she will up and leave, laughing at you both..
I think you should go see a shrink.

Guessing that you may have meant YOUR stepdaughter -
It is illegal because you married the woman and became a father to the girl.
If you really meant YOUR stepdaughter, that makes the child related to her ex, or your own child
Either way, you are effectively wanting a relationship with your daughter, and are committing a criminal offence of you attempt to live as man and wife.
Depending on the age of the girl when this began, you may also be classed as a sex offender and be placed on the register of offenders and/or imprisoned

If the 'child' is unrelated to your both, and officially an adult, that just makes you a ****, but not a criminal

You should say...
"Sorry honey, but I'm a sexual pervert with a sick and twisted mind, and I have a thing for really young girls. Therefore I do not wish to be with you any longer. Oh, and by the way, your stepdaughter will be staying with me from now on. You could visit her on the weekends, though."
and then afterwards, you should just shoot yourself in the face, or just die in whatever way. Because the world doesn't need another creeper like you.

Why not tell the Stepdaughter's Father first, I bet he would love to hear the news before his ex wife does. And after you both get your lives together and ruin those around you. Let us know when your new bride cheats on you. What goes around comes around.

Get divorced first, then move away together, leaving ex-wife and everything else behind, to start a new life. She doesn't even need to know you're together at all. Once the marriage contract is broken, you're free to do as you please, hopefully in private. It's not as thought you're going to come out of this having everyone happy and together for holidays. It's going to be a change, one you should feel is worth it in order to continue the relationship, otherwise it's a sacrifice, and that's bad and will come back to haunt you.

Why would you? The only thing this will do is cause her further pain.
End your relationship, get your divorce finalized, During this time do not have a sexual relationship with her step-daughter. Show your respect to the marriage vows you swore yourself to. This will also give the new woman some faith that you aren't a complete dog.

But Please, do me a favor, don't throw this relation on your wife's face, even if she is been mean to you, nobody deserves that.
If you made up your mind, at least don't hurt her any more than she already is, there are no words to aliviate that situation.
