Hey, I need some help with this question I am doing for American History. Here is the question: How might Poland’s location have influenced the secret pact that Germany and the Soviet Union signed on August 23rd, 1939?

Think anyone can help me out? If you don't want to give me the answer, that's cool. A website or any sort of reference would help :)

Well, I think that what the question wants is why the actual location of Poland was so important to Hitler. Am I right? Maybe not, I am the one asking the question here ;)

Protected access to the North Atlantic, via the (if I remember right) the Baltic sea.

At one time Poland had been part of the German empire!

At one time Poland had been part of the Russian empire!

Both Russia and Germany were still claiming Poland as belonging to them because of that.

That should give you a starting point!

And almost forgot the Polish ship yards and steel mills. You might also want to instigate the possibility of Poland having oil!

Poland was on the border with soviet union, Hitler planned to attack soviet union but he needed some time, so he made a pact with Stalin to win the time and to distract his attention. that's why when germany attacked soviet union it was a surprise to stalin, cos they had the pact with germany.
