As a person that has lived on the coast and seen a few storms and been in the EMS. The state and the city were the main problems. FEMA is not the ones in charge they are.The Feds come in and ask how can we help but this time they were in jail for running off with the cash. New Orleans has and still is the most corrupt city in the US. In that kind of storm you are told you are on your own for 2 to 5 days. If you want to find a clue of why it was hard to get help look at a map then take out the only two roads in.
SO GET OFF IT

Katrina was a huge storm. The Governor of Louisiana and the Mayor of New Orleans both bear blame with the lack of a workable evacuation plan. I live in Montana and I've known for years that New Orleans is below sea level! Many people chose to stay until it was to late. Others had no way to get out, although all the school buses were left to be ruined in the flood. Houston was offering assistance with housing, etc., as were many other places when that storm was coming.
One of the ironies of Katrina is that it was WalMart who brought water and other supplies to the entire region of the Gulf coast. They trucked in water and bedding and clothing for free. They are in the business of moving goods to where they are needed. We would have saved tons of money and gotten things where they were needed if we paid WalMart to do it.
they did it anyway.
I just hope that Louisiana learned some lessons from this and will use the money they've gotten to fix stuff right. It is known to be one of, if not the most corrupt state(s) in nation, as far as government (all levels) goes.
As to Iraq, we are there. If we try to just leave and bring our troops home, all the Jihadists will take it as the US being weak and we will have waves of attacks here. The Jihadists are spending all their efforts on Iraq. If you think there are lots of people dying there now, it will be the Sunnis against the Shiaas and everyone against the Kurds, but I guess since it wouldn't be on the news then, you wouldn't worry about it.
Right now the al Qaeda people in Iraq are hoping that you will react the way you are.
They count on you to be horrified by the destruction and turmoil they are causing in an effort to sway voters before the US election.
Do you remember the train bombing in Madrid?
They got exactly what they were looking for there, a change of government. They still want Spain back, since they it was a Muslim country for awhile.
It is so easy and acceptable to be a coward these days. Isn't it?

You ask too many questions at the same time and expect a global answer. The drive of the USA politics is petroleum. Lobbies get wealth and power controling it.. Besides, petroleum is in the heart of American culture and the system would collapse with its lack. USA is on the rampage with its external politics, and seems the undergone way can't be stopped, but it has to come to a dead end and things could get nasty.
You feel for the troops? The troops are professional mercenaries. They were not forced into war as many young men who got killed by these mercenaries, in some third world country.
As far as Katarina, it is either a racial issue or pure bad organization of a selfproclaimed world peace bastion...

First of all, let me clarify a few answers from those "blindly" misquided by our administration's current policy. Iraq is and never was a terrorist threat. It was a rogue regime that posed no danger to anyone, other than to its own citizens. Secondly, there is absolutely no correlation between September 11th and Iraq. No WMD were found, no terrorist from the attacks were from Iraq, and there is no evidence that Osama Bin Laden and Saddam Hussein ever consipired together (or even met for that matter). This "relationship" is simply a tactic by this administration for attacking another country in the only "pre-emptive" attack in our nation's history.
So far as the difference between Iraq and Katrina, the issue is complicated. The reason we are in Iraq is for various reasons, most of which have to do with our administration's own special interests (oil) in the middle east, and an attempt to "democracize" the middle east. Remember democracy in this country started when a group of American patriot's decided they wanted independence. You can't "will" democracy on another nation or region.
Katrina was a terrible natural disaster, that was handled better by local agencies than our own government. FEMA, the emergency response agency that exists to respond to such situations was slow to respond and an embarassment to the entire situation.
It is a sad state of events when our nation's government spends billions of dollars to fight a war we cannot win, and continues to fail to provide adequate housing for those who were left with nothing in the wake of a natural disaster.
If this isn't enough to convince you to vote democrat, I don't know what will.

Because u have george w as a president!!!!! America is power hungry and racist (politicaly, not all the people) therefore the government will do anyhting to proove they are the big world power! Also oil and money, another of george w favourite things! Iraq is this generations vietnam! Its a sad thing but true and they are bringing the rest of the world in on a battle that should not have been fought in the first place! Its not Americas responsibilty to "fix" everything, maybe they should help there own ppl first. I am just glad to hear from an american with intellegence. thankyou!

Afghanistan and Iraq is vital for the survival and advancement of living human kind on planet earth.
Something extra ordinary beyond the control of living human kind.
It has got something to do with the blunders and slip-ups with human errors created back in the pass over the loss of the missing x-files.
The loss of our creator's universal gifts of life vital for the survival and advancement of living human kind that was lost with time on planet earth.
The blunders and slip-ups with human errors was expose by those boys and girls at loss and blurr on what went wrong out there after the war was over.
Were able to trace the faults with some answers with someone out there looking into it trying to solve and come up with a yellow ribbon which is a must before every thing is over on planet earth.
Since everyone is at loss there is no point in kicking the butts among ourselves but try to come up with a solution to solve the mess out there in planet of apes.
The survival of the little ones is at stake.
That is not an ordinary war going on over there.
The mystery of us-911 expose it.

Why didn't anything go the way "we all" thought it should have???
Because our Government is not capable of doing the job they were elected to do. We have a white house full of retards who know nothing more then telling everyone who asks about Iraq, Katrina, the deficit, Iran, North Korea, etc...etc... to mind their own business and if they (we) want to know anything then " we should just trust our president " and not help spread any sign of weakness to the terrorists..BLAH BLAH BLAH
We have a Government that has been in washington 6 years too long, you dont like what is happening....vote them out!!!!! Just vote!!

First I have to say SCION is un informed. What does Iraq have to do with the Arab and Egyptian terrorists who flew planes into buildings? - nothing. We should never have invaded Iraq in the first place. Maybe we could have had better coordination and response under a more competant president.

I know this is probably easy for me to say because I wasn't there, but in a devastating situation like Katrina, it took time to get help in, supplies, etc. I think, under those circumstances everyone helped the best they could. People want immediate results but when something like this happens, it seems like forever. I really doubt this had anything to do with Iraq. People seem to blame Iraq on everything.

Yeah, tons of people would agree with you. The thing is, you hate Bush's tactics, why vote for him? How did he become the president again if so many people didn't want him? By the way, I can't vote because I am not a citizen yet. 1 more year hahah.
