It is a myth that often revels in fact when things that we work hard for come about and we forget how hard it was to get it

People often confuse hard work with destiny if things go right if they go wrong them we believe that they were just never ment to be

well, if by ur own definition, believing in destiny causes u to do something worthhile---like purging urself and etc., then destiny must not b a myth. Just saying "destiny" is quite general---which destiny are u reffering to? I dont believe destiny is itself a myth, although we may not see it. Just like i dont see u but i know u will read what im writing. or i dont see tomorrow, but i am preparing today for tomorrow. We dont need to second guess that destiny isnt a myth because the very life we live here on earth --our daily lives---make it obvious that we live by faith. we dont know what tomorrow holds, but we always prepare for tomorrow---because our past experiences have conditioned us and somewhat prepared us for it. eg. i dont need to know that in the morning ill c a blue sky and perhaps hear birds chirping or see people walking and going various places because my past experience has shown me that thats exactly what happens everyday. It just so happens that it is also true that the unexpected occurs--sometimes.

I agree with you totally.

Yes, believing in destiny helps us get over our failures and follies.

More importantly, belief in destiny helps us perform better. When you are not overly worried that you might make a mistake that could cause failure, you get a kind of confidence in doing your work which reduces the chances of errors or mistakes or wrong decisions.

Most importantly, a belief in destiny makes us control our ego which is always beneficial - possibility of overconfidence is removed totally.

So, even if destiny may be a myth, believing in destiny helps us immensely in carrying on our duties better.

You believe in predestination if you wish, but I can't. I was at one point in the past not knowing what I wanted, my life felt like a mess, etc. At that time, I wished for predestination, since I was definitely not competent to determine my fate myself (even in this life/especially in this life).

And then, I matured and grew stronger psychologically and realize that I was psychologcially weak and lazy back then. Now, I must have control over myself and my plans for this life. I do not believe in predestination because that means I determine nothing for myself and that would be a cruel joke if I thought I did, but didn't. As far as I can tell/see, I do have control over how my life goes and that is security enough for me to pursue my life with ambition and purpose. I would lose all meaning if my life was already set.

If i am determining my own fate and my behaviors, then I am FULLY responsible for my mistakes and hurting others, etc.. all/full gamut of what you mention. It doesn't matter. If you're psychologically strong, you should be able to own up to them all with confidence, even if you made the mistakes, etc. For example, a surgeon makes a mistake and kills someone, but he really did make a mistake... oh well. too bad for the patient, BUT he won't be blaming it on the patient's lack of resilience or anyone else but HIMSELF. He will take full responsibility, since he was the main player. Well, THAT indeed takes courage and ownership of oneself. That is by the way, marvelous, no matter what the mistake. YOu must take responsibility to do whatever to correct the mistakes and never make them again. It leads to another issue of being careful. If you are responsible for yourself, you must be careful.

We choose our destiny because we always have the freedom of choice. You must not let destiny control you but you need to control it! believing you can't control your destiny is fatalism I would say. Human beings often have a need to justify their mistakes this way

Like Spinoza´s said around 500 years ago, the destiny made puppets of us and we loose the concept of sin. Because if you have your destiny ready when you born, you only follow a script and kill someone it´s not good or bad, because you don´t have choice.r

as many negative reasons we can come up with for destiny , there are just as many positive ones that can be exposed as well. who knows what the truth is. maybe its different for everyone.

Like fate, it's a myth. I believe that we have free will and that we make of our lives the best that we can. We struggle and, hopefully, prevail.
