The first major US union to include blacks, however, were the Wobblies, the Industrial Workers of The World ("IWW") who were strongly influenced by Socialist and Communist (e.g., Marxist) ideas about the equality of all workers (syndicalism).

As to when, a smaller African-american union joined the Wobblies in 1912 or so after hearing "Big Bill" Haywood. So, no later than then.

The Brotherhood of Sleeping Car Porters (BSCP) was a labor union in the United States organized by the predominantly African-American Pullman Porters. Organized in 1925, it struggled for twelve years before winning its first collective bargaining agreement with the Pullman Company.
