About 80% of the mobile connections sold in India are mostly Pre-paid. But it is not possible to confirm whether the number u r looking for pre-paid or post-paid. Also the number could have changed from pre-paid to post-paid and vice-a-versa. Reporting to the Police is an option, but to do that, u need to be sure what details u are going to mention in the FIR / Complaint letter. Have u answered the phone? It may be a promotional call. You can add your number to the "Do Not Call" registry. The very purpose of taking a mobile phone is that your address is not published in public directories. If such would have been a case, service providers will have to witness a major disconnection crisis. Not everyone wants to make his details public. The details are stored in systems of the company. They only share them with the security and Intelligence agencies, that too on demand only.
