sure. An easy way is to get the local shows from cable. Just get a tuner card, install it, hook up the cable to it and get some software to turn the TV shows into files. My favorite is Sage TV (http://www.sage.tv). You can buy tuner/software bundles at http://www.pcalchemy.com). Read the forums and FAQs at htttp://www.sage.tv for details.

Get a usb remote. It will make it easier to operate. You'll also need a big hard disk, because every show will be a file. At medium quality, it records at 1 gig per hour. If you buy a dual tuner card, you can record two programs at the same time or watch one and record another.

Well you can purchase a TV tuner card for a laptop (PCMCIA TV Tuner card) or for a desktop (PCI TV Tuner capture card). Or if you want to watch some shows from the internet you can go to ABC.com and watch quite a few of their primetime shows for free. Also CBS.com also has quite a few of their primetime programs for free also. Hope this helps.
