I don't mind the occasional silly words in chat, the thing that gets to me is the constant BUZZING when you don't answer because you are busy doing something else!!! Some people have their own way of chatting so they put those words in like lol or whatever.

I suppose I do it at times as a sort of nervous 'tic', much like someone might talk with their hands. I also tend to use the "lol" as a quick response to someone when I don't want to be rude and offend them, but I'll be busy with my mind somewhere else. It could most certainly be classified as cyber slang! I am one who cringes when grammar and English is so botched and bludgeoned, it's surprising I use those annoying little "lol's".... Thank you for making me more aware the nasty habit!! Great Question!!

Your question has actually made me laugh - I can just visualise a whole group of grinnng village idiot types all tapping away their silly laughing codes to each other - one types LOL - and the other replies yeah LMFAO - hehhehheh. Dont they realise that it just doesnt work in print ?? For that sort of conversation you have to phone xx

I think a lot of it is that we are messaging and not actually talking to someone face to face. When you are talking to someone this way, you can not see facial expressions, so you do not know if you have offended that person. Personally, I only use those expressions when I am making a joke or using sarcasm just so that the asker of the question I am replying to knows I do not mean to offend or insult them.

I agree with you. It's ok in some situations but others, well it just makes people appear silly.
I never do it.
Even if I text someone I write the full words, I find it easier.

Maybe some people don't understand the meaning of it and add it to everything they say!?! For the others, I guess they just like using the terminology.

Sorry I couldnt help laughing but you are absolutely right!
Maybe they had a fit of the giggles or had the urge to laugh whilst they were writing.
