the old sailors tale " red at night a sailors delight, red in the morning sailors take warning" how did they know that it would work every time?

It doesn't work everytime, but it's just like any other old wives tale....there's some truth to it. The reason you would see a red sky at night instead of early morning has to do with the atmosphere and weather conditions over the open ocean. I can't remember exactly why, but the red sky has something to do with winds and pressure and the likelyhood of a storm.

It's like everything else handed down through the years like this. It's been tried, tested and true.

I imagine it was tested over time before they came up with the poem.
