I put mine up now about a week before Christmas and take it down on New Years after I recover from the night before.
I used to buy a live tree and decorate it after Thanksgiving and then plant the tree somewhere on New Years Day. A live tree has to be kept watered and I use a spray bottle of water to spray it down throughout the day. 3-4 times a day.

Christmas is great you know? Well, my family usually puts up their tree in the beginning or middle of December, but Christmas seems to be the longest holiday to me because the tree stays there 'til like some time in January! Um... but honestly, I would take it down when you feel that the feeling of Christmas is no longer inside of you. Maybe when you're done passing out your gifts, or when people stop dropping by to hand you a present? However, no one told you Christmas ends in January, so, do what you wish. =)

Ya know I have heard this question a lot lately on the news, radio, etc. and I have concluded it is when you want to put it up and take it down ( unless it is real then well , that is different all together ). If it puts a smile on your face. A spring in your step. And a hip in your hop to put it up in the middle of summer then heck, go for it. Who cares what the "unwritten" rules say as long as you are happy. Our tree goes up usually on the first of December. Some years it has snuck up earlier. It gets taken down sometime after New Year. Merry Christmas!

I put my tree up around the middle to end of november...usually when the local malls start to decorate. I take it down around new years...usually a day or two after. I like to enjoy my tree for as long as I can. Christmas only comes once a year so I try to make the most of it without overdoing it.

The right time is different for each person. If you decorate like a mad person then start as early as possible and then take them down after New Years Day
I like to put up my Christmas tree the second week of December and throw it out the day after New Year's Day.

I like to put mine up the day after Thanksgiving and get it down sometime the week after Christmas, but no later than New Year's Day.

Went to a friend's house last night and she already has one of several trees up and decorated. They love Christmas. That's too soon for me.

I usually put mine up the day after Thanksgiving and take it down somewhere between December 26th and December 30th. My Mom is usually tired of it by then.

There is this guy that I work with whose wife is a Christmas fanatic. She puts her trees up around August or September.

My Aunt collects snowglobes and the Department 56 villages and she leaves them out pretty much year around.

I think that you should do whatever makes you happy. That is the most important thing.
