Definitely anything that does not hold the belly area too tight. Try empire cut blouses. Choose lighter fabrics also like chiffon, they don't tend to hug the body. Shirts with prints are also a good option. Layering is only good provided you use good fabrics, and nice texturing. It will look like a disaster when done wrong. Try checking out websites like ellegirl.com which provides answers to questions like yours and with visuals to guide you. Lastly, it would not hurt to do exercises like sit-ups for a slimmer belly area.

In order to make the appearance slimmer, avoid horizontal stripes..those just don't work. Do try and find shirts that are slightly fitted & don't fit like a mumu (sp?). White shirts are iffy--you need to try it on, b/c lighter colors are not always flattering. Avoid tight-fitting shirts...there's a diff between those & the fitted/tailored ones. Tight just accentuates any flaws that you have...

Shirt with ruching (gathers around the mid-waist). Shirts that wrap around, even a faux wrap, make your stomach and waist look thinner. Also, try layering, lacy camisoles are nice.

Layering makes a person look slimmer, a shirt with rousing? I think that is how it is spelled.....(the gathering on the tummy) of course....darker colors....I personally think Satin makes one look slimmer....just because it is soft and....smooth.
