Should we encourage Iraq to split up, It seems to work for the India and Pakistan?
I understand that the Turkish government really doesn't like the idea because they don't want to encourage Turkish Kurds who want an independet state. Is this correct?
What is the feeling of Turkey's general population?
What would be Turkey's response if this happened?

I would be particularly interested in responses from Iraqis, Turks and Kurds.

If there are multiple regions, with very diverse populations, who don't want to share a single government -- splitting up is the only rational answer.

You can't have a democracy where nobody wants to accept majority rule unless they happen to be the majority. Look at the US civil war -- and that was after having already been a functioning democratic republic for most of a century.

Iraq as a whole isn't ready to be a single democracy. So, let each region form their own local government, and deal with each of those, rather than forcing them into a mixing bowl that they clearly neither want nor are ready for.

Iraq is already split up along ethnic and religious lines. It is a done deal that there will be a kurdish state in what is now Iraq, and I feel that the Turks will tolerate it if the PKK wil end terrorism. Turkey now realizes that it was an error to deny America air space to conduct the war .
