I did a special fund raising reading of this play a year ago. The six dead soldiers all speak with one of their loved ones (all women), and in the end the dead soldiers refuse to be buried. The play ends with the dead men marching off and the onookers of various stipe left in confusion.

This form of play is what is called "agit-prop" (agitation/propoganda) and is written to develop a particular political or philosophical point of view. In the case of Bury The Dead it is to put forward a communist/pacifist viewpoint.
