No, that would be an unfair poll tax for the illegals, felons, and dead people trying to get a democrat elected.

I am a supervisor with the board of elections on voting days, and we check every ID. The voter must have a valid ID (it does not have to have a photo on it) and we match the signature as well as name and valid address. If name or address is different the voter can vote provisional and the board of elections then determines if that vote will be counted by double checking the given information. I don't know how other places do their checking, but that is how we handle it in St Louis County.

Voting IDs are a red herring. There is no evidence that there are huge numbers of people who are voting fraudulenty. Far more dangerous is the fact that your vote may go missing and never be counted. It has happened at least 3 times in the past.
1.1960 Kennedy & Nixon. Daley dumped huge numbers of Republican votes and stuffed the ballot box with votes from dead people.
2. 2000 Bush & Gore. Huge irregularities in Florida, people removed from voter rolls, non-recounts when asked, James Baker who admits he "fixed" the Florida vote.
3. 2004 Bush & Kerry. Even though Kerry couldn't find his way out of a paper bag, he actually won Ohio. Provisional ballots were made available after the screw up in 2000. However, although voters must be issued a provisional ballot, there is nothing in the law that says they must be counted!!
So stop saying who can't vote and demand that all votes be counted. After all it was Joe Stalin who said, "It's not who you vote for that is important, it's who counts the votes."

well if they have a fake social security number then most likely they will have an i.d. as well. So what will the i.d. prove? I also doubt that illegals are registering themselves and opening themselves up to being checked out by any govt. agency. I think they lay pretty low not wanting to be noticed.

Absolutely. We need ID's to buy milk and bread with a credit card at the supermarket, but any yayhoo can waltz up, say his name is "so-and-so" with NO verification that he actually is "so-and-so" and cast a vote in a name that very well might not be his? I think it's ridiculous.

You need it to drive a car, cash a check, use a credit card, sign legal documents in front of a notary. What the hell is the problem?

Yes they should require ID. People on here who think illegals don't vote are nuts. That goes for dead people too.

As a former poll worker (California), the people are already in our books & have to give their name & address & we cross-check it in the books. They are not required to produce ID, but I think it is a good idea.
