Why is the library more credible then a search bar, such as yahoo, for my research paper?

Ordinarily a library is thought of as the more credible and the internet is thought of as most current.

It is most important in each case, however, to find out something about your source. You can find many sites on the internet about healing remedies, for instance, that are primarily shills for people who are trying to sell remedies but you can also find up-to-date sites such as the Mayo Clinic that have credibility.

You might find books in the library that are not correct because they are out of date or are authored by someone who does not have extensive experience in the field. So, you need to select the latest copyright date possible which is authored by someone who has outstanding credentials in the field.

Also, some libraries are more credible than others. A law library is not likely to have books written by novices in the law but a public library may have. In the case of the public library, the books may be watered down for younger readers, even though they are not cataloged with juvenile books.

The Internet is full of information, you have to sift through the trash to find the credible sources. Just because someone puts a degree after their name or publishes one book does not mean that they are credible. If it is not from an obviously credible company that everyone has heard of, you have to research their credibility yourself or risk sounding stupid.

Most stuff that is published in a library has been through a process of review by other scholars, for example. Any yahoo can put up a website on the internet.

Anyone can simply create a website and write lies. A book, especially one in the library must be credible if it's ever going to get published.

It all depends on the source of the information. There are millions of sites on every subject you can think of on the interent but that doesn't mean they all can contribute facts for your paper. The library will force you to work harder to find what you need but in the end you will learn the ability to learn how to navigate the library for future reference.

The best thing is probably a library online database. Is that an option?

I'd think that a library is more correct. But also it has more outdated information. The correct info that you do find online, is updated routinely.
