I recently got a new car, (w/new tires) and got a flat. The tires on there are too much for me and my b/f tells me to get a cheap one at Sams or somewhere...I thought they should all be the same? Is he right-who cares about if they're all the same or should they be?

You generally want to keep the same type of tire on your vechile. Not particularly the same brand (although its preferred) but the same type of tread. Because a different treads will wear down differently. But you can mix the treads as long as the 2 on the front match each other and the 2 on the rear match each other. Plus different tires to me personally looks ghetto.

The tires all have to be the same size, that is really a safety issue. Because the cars handling and braking characteristics were engineered based on a single tire size. While the same is true about brand and tread, as long as the pairs on each axle match(F or R), it's less important. The best solution, especially since the car is new, is to replace the tire with an identical new one. Unless you can have the flat fixed.

Take the tire to sams and have them check it. it may just need a plug not replacement. if it needs replacing, it is important to get the same size tire as the other tire. also, anytime you have your tires replaced make sure you get them balanced and if necessary rotated. Or you'll have uneven ware and the car will pull.

Ideally they should all be the same because slight differences in your tires could cause cumulative damage to your vehicle over time. One thing to be very wary of is if your tires are different heights because this could cause damage very quickly.

I have 2 of one kind & 2 of another kind. I don't even notice. My b/f does & points it out religiously. I think it's a man thing.
