I live next to a rental property (a house) that is in horrible condition. I have contacted the landlord and property management company but they refuse to do anything. There is no way I will even be able to sell my house with that mess next door to me. I live in Houston, Harris County. I have not been able to find any online resources or city agencies that might help. The homeowners assoc. doesn't care either so that isn't an option. Anyone have any ideas?

complain to the health department.

Also, I think the city zoning commision (i may be wrong) but there is an agency that can fine them if they do not clean up their property.

Take pictures and copies of your complaint letters to city council meeting and address them. Then you have it on record. Learn which council member represents your area first. Find your charter for your HOA. If you go to sell your property and can show a loss in value, you have a legal recourse to sue the HOA.

I would try calling the zoning board, and have them come out to look for code violations. They can probably also give you advice on who to call to get the situation straightened out. If nothing else, contact an attorney to see what can legally be done to force them to clean up their act. Good luck!
