A tie occurs in the NFL when neither team scores in overtime. It is rare, but it does happen occasionally. The last tie was a game between the Steelers and Falcons in 2002. Interestingly, the two teams nearly tied again this season, but the Falcons won on a field goal late in overtime.

In the regular season, if the game is still tied after one overtime period, the game ends in a tie. The Steelers and Falcons played to a tie a few years ago.

In the post season, the game continues with as many extra periods until the tie is broken.

there's only one overtime during the regular season and if nobody scores before the overtime period is over then the game ends in a tie but in the playoffs they would go to as many overtimes as it takes to get a winner

They can still tie. They play 1 overtime period of 15 minutes. If someone scores anytime during that period the game ends right then andthere. But if no one scores in that 15 minute period then the game does end in a tie.
