Rape is about power not sex. This is the first misconception about rape. It is about dominance and control. Men rape women, and other men, and children. Women can rape, but statistics are not very high. Rape does not have to be anal or vaginal penetration, it can be oral and any behaviour in which the survivor of the rape did not consent to. This means that rape can and does happen in marriage. Women are more likely to be raped by people they know, as opposed to strangers.
Rape is about power, not sex. A rapist uses actual force or violence - or the threat of it - to take control over another human being. Some rapists use drugs to take away a person's ability to fight back. Rape is a crime, whether the person committing it is a stranger, a date, an acquaintance, or a family member.
No matter how it happened, rape is frightening and traumatizing. People who have been raped need care, comfort, and a way to heal.
Why Does it Happen?
Let's look at sexual stereotyping and how males and females talk to each other.
Although things are changing, society still frequently encourages men to be competitive and aggressive and teaches women to be passive and avoid confrontation.
Men say they misunderstand a woman's words and actions — the excuse "she said no, but meant yes."
Some people — men and women alike — still believe that it's okay for a man to demand sex if he takes a woman out or buys her gifts, and that it's not rape if he forces sex on a woman who previously had sex with him or other men.
Women also feel that if they've previously had sex with their boyfriend and he later forces her to have sex against her will, it may not be considered rape.
Date rape can happen in homosexual relationships as well as heterosexual ones. Although it is less frequent, men can also be the victim of rape. It is still a crime and the victim still needs to get medical attention and counseling as soon as possible.
Rape is the sexual expression of
hostility and aggression - a behavioral act not a psychiatric
condition. Rape typically reflects deep seated feelings of
inadequacy.
Men rape because they believe they have the right to control and to punish women who do not obey their rules of behaviour. Rape is an expression of unequal power relations between men and women. Such unequal power relations are not the result of nature or evolution but societies which, through legislation and social custom, have made women second-class citizens.
In our culture sex is so interfused with violence that powerlessness and power themselves have become eroticized. Getting at the real motives of rapists is difficult since they typically do not admit their crimes. Experts say rapists are notoriously manipulative and don't always tell the truth.

Rape happens NOT because the perpetrator wants sex from the other person. Rape is about power, control, and rage of/towards others. No one really knows what drives people to rape others. And many rapes are not reported, so even the percentage that the experts have in hand are low compared to how many there really are. Rape does NOT happen because of how a person dresses as a rapist picks on everyone; it doesn't happen because of a persons sexual past. The rapist will pick on anyone and everyone when he/she has the 'urge' to. They aren't typically picky about who it is, where it is, etc.

Rape is about control and violence, NOT about sex. Whenever it happens, it's never the victims fault. And the person who commited the crime should be burned alive. I hope there is a higher power out there with a special hell for rapists.

it is a reflection of society. Take America for example a woman can consent to sex and when you are in the middle of sexing her she says stop if you don't that is considered rape. Laws in this country are written to have double meanings and depending on your financial status determines if you get off or not.
