Kitty loved to roam about the house when her owners were at work. She spent her days sleeping on windowsills in the sun and playing with her reflection in the mirror. When her owners put a new roll of toilet paper in the bathroom, she liked to grab the end of it and see how far she could run through the house until she ran out of paper. Sometimes this made her owners mad and the next day they would lock her in the laundry room before going to work. Then her days were very lonely and boring. But she loved her life and being "in charge" when she was home alone. Then one day, something awful happened. It came in the form of a yipping, squirming ball of fur. A puppy! Puppy was annoying, always making messes on the floor for her owners to clean up and whining all night until they brought her in bed with them, sometimes taking Kitty's spot! When their owners went to work, they would put Puppy in a crate so she couldn't make a mess. Kitty would sit outside the cage and make fun of Puppy until she cried, then Kitty would run through the house, just because she could! As the days passed though, Kitty got less and less pleasure from taunting Puppy. She remembered her days of being locked in the laundry room and how lonely and boring it was. She started to feel bad for teasing Puppy. She started watching when Puppy got locked in the cage in the morning. Finally, she figured out how to open the cage, so after her owners left for the day, she let Puppy out. Puppy was so happy she forgot to be mad at Kitty for all the teasing and they spent the day playing around the house. Kitty was happy again. She and Puppy made up fun games to play together and she taught Puppy some of the things she liked to do most. She even tried to get Puppy to jump up on the windowsill but Puppy wasn't big enough. But she did have fun playing on slippery kitchen floor, running real fast and then skidding. It took a little practice to keep from banging into things but they got it eventually. Finally, both Kitty and Puppy were exhausted so they went into Puppy's cage and curled up together and fell asleep. That's where they were when their owners came home and saw them. The owners thought they were so cute curled up together and from that day on, they never locked Puppy in the cage and Puppy and Kitty are good friends to this day, and they usually keep each other out of trouble.
The moral of the story is that you shouldn't be afraid of changing your routine and trying new things, and you should give others a chance so you don't miss out on a good friendship!
