Yes and no.

It is based on the same Ian Fleming novel. I think Casino Royale was the first novel, but the team that made the Bond franchise did not get the rights - they had been sold to someone else, who sold them to the makers of the first Casino Royale. It appears that those rights have since expired and the Bond series people have bought them.

However, it is highly unlikely that the film will be a remake of the first one. That contained about 6 different actors playing Bond, including women. The story was that all British spies were called James Bond. The story was a spoof of the earlier Sean Connery Bond movie(s), and bore little resemblance to anything that happened in the book.

No. There is NO comedic parodies in the new Casino Royale: this project is a serious portrayal of Bond.

From what little I've gathered of the new storyline....and I ask in advance forgiveness from Bond purists....there's the inference that "James Bond : 007" is more a title given to the qualified male M-I 6 agent, who has his memories and true identity "erased" if he chooses to accept his new "Bond" identity.

It's either that or finally Bond falls in love and again marries--but finds he still is at firey odds between living a "normal" love life and the demands of being the world's most deadly top secret security agent in the employ of Her Majesty's Secret Service.

Yes, it is a remake. It also had Peter Seller, Orson Welles, and tons of other stars (of that era). It was more of a comedey. Practicaly everyone was 007 and it ended with everyone being killed
