I'm having a house built in El Paso, TX and am about to close in 2 weeks. Today the air conditioner units went in. It turns out they are on the roof and are a complete eyesore! Is there any benefit to having the ac units on the roof? How difficult would it be to have moved to the ground instead? Thanks so much.

if ther ducts run up to the roof, it would not be feasable to move the condensing unit and the ducts.
the advantage is cold air sinks, so if it's on the roof it will be easier to cool the area.

I had one of these installed in a building before and as I recall, the uptake and downdraft were located in the bottom of the unit--so in order to move MY unit, I would have to stand it off the ground, install ducting from it to the building... No, I don't think this is possible. I do believe that if the unit is on the roof and is moe or less self-contained, that it must be more efficient and certainly stronger. What about a facade, to disguise it?
