Should I have a passport to go on a cruise to Mexico on Dec. 8, 2006? Or will Photo ID and my Birth Certificate be sufficient?

A passport will be nice, but it's one day in Mexico.

Passports are required starting Jan. 8th 2007 it will be required for Mexico, Caribbean, Canada, S. America, Bermuda and yes also Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands (this is going to be required by many airlines, not the US State Dept and because of this many are confused). You will however not need one for this trip.

For the person who put you will have it in 2 weeks is very incorrect. Right now it is anywhere for 4 - 8 weeks on average...maybe less maybe more. If you travel internationally occasionally you might as well go apply and if you don't get it before this trip use then the government issued ID and Birth Certificate either certified or original. Photo copies are not accepted.

After December 31, 2006 passports will be required for entering both Mexico and Canada. If you are home before New Years you will not need a passport.

Besides a passport, I believe you will need a tourist card, too. If you booked through a travel agent, they should have the form for you.
