MP3 is already compressed, What you will need to do is resample the file to a lower bitrate. You can do that with MusicMatch Jukebox pretty easily. If you go below, say 64 BPS (bits per second), you will lose too much quality. As it is, MMJB calls that "FM radio" quality.

I use MMJB to create low bit rate versions of all my music and burn them to CDs so I can transfer them to my Palm device whenever I want.

MMJB has a free version, but it is worth paying the $19 or so to get the faster burn rates and extra features.

The sound is, OK, but it definitely is no longer true High Fidelity sound.
