Who's refusing? I love studying languages! However, should we alow a secondary language to be official? I don't think that's necessary. We're creating a new language with the Spanglish and all the other wonderful linguistic creativity that is alive & well in the US

Well there is this book by Douglas Adams called "A Hitchhikers Guide to the Universe".
anyway in it there is this marvelous thing that makes it so anyone anywhere on any planet can understand a person from another planet, star system, galaxy or whatever. It was the cause of more and bloodier wars than god. I think is how the book put it.
I know a bit of German and am more fluent nearly in sign language than the tongue I've spoken my entire life.
though I do make errors that could lead to misunderstandings.... O if you count Visual Basic 6 and C++, then i know quite a few languages. It's not a bad idea to learn another language, just don't see it leading to world peace.

Hey generalizing person.
I am an American and I speak English as my first language, now I am trying to learn Spanish so that I will be able to speak in my own country. If the Democrats win then we will have no restraint on illegal immigration. Then Spanish will be our national language because the entire population of Mexico will be here in America.
Buenos noches,
Y por favor, pasa tiempo estudiar espanol. Yo creo que tranquilidad de mundo es por a Jesus Cristo solo, y no lengua.

I am American and study other languages. You have to remember we work longer hours and have waaaaay less vacation time than Europeans do. Learning another language is time consuming and costly so I dont blame Americans for not but I would like it if more Americans learned another language. And not just Spanish.

Um ... such a lot for freedom? You desire a state-mandated faith that outlaws all conflicting religions? Move to the Middle East. John E., prophecy or now not, I used to be effectively giving an illustration of what occurs whilst state-mandated faith is in situation. No topic what the faith is, it is not going to make *every person* suppose well -- a few of us are Atheists, a few think in a male god, others a feminine god -- there is not any method to please every person. So lengthy as there are freethinking humans on the planet, the belief of every person being comfortable underneath one state-mandated faith is a pipe dream. The Middle East is just one illustration of what occurs whilst one unique faith takes manage of a society -- you'll additionally reference Europe within the Middle Ages. So, I desire you are now not effectively displaying *your* lack of expertise -- a few of us do not think in prophecy, regardless of in which it comes from, and state the information as they're. And as a matter of fact, if one faith goes to manage everyone, you are going to get a obstacle very similar to the only within the Middle East.

Ah, there's a theory of French superiority. I think you may have something there. Let's extrapolate this... since ability to speak many languages is the key qualification, then my housekeeper who speaks two languages should be allowed to practice Law since so many lawyers speak only one. She's gonna be so happy.

No not at all, it's just plain ignorant that the rest of the world won't come to grips with the fact that they will all soon be speaking english. Whether they like it or not.
Stupid question gets stupid answer.

They should learn other languages unless they are mentally incompetent.
Perhaps they are too confident that English will become the international language.
