I have been feeling very depressed lately. All I want to do is sleep. NOTHING gets me excited. I smile but its totally fake. I think that I can change this by myself but its not happening. I have no energy. If it wasnt for me having to get up in the morning to take my daughter to school, I would probably stay in bed all day. I get very aggravated at the simplest things. I am very down on myself. I use to be a very outgoing person. I use to hear of other people like this and would think "is your life that miserable?" Nothing major has happened to make me feel this way. I hate feeling so sad and mad and not knowing why.

somewhere in your life you have gotten a sort of chemical imbalance or something. i have had issues all my life. for you i suggest that you go to the drug store and get st johns wort. tomorrow.its natural but it acts like prozac or paxil. i tryed it when i couldnt afford to see my doctor anymore. its awsome. and you dont have to have the stress of paying and making time out to see an expensive doctor. it made all those bad thoughts stop. i feel good about myself now. i have more energy because im not weighed down by the depression and i sleep through the night for once. no more anxiety. and i wake up refreshed . is it a mirical vitamin? who knows. i know it worked for me, maybe it could work for. you. try 1 for a week. if you feel nothing go to 2 in the morn. im at two. some days i need one around 4 or5. but this does tend to make me a bit more hyper than i like. but the silence in my mind is golden . it leaves me more room in my mind for good things. and for you maybe you could feel the joy of your daughter. if you need to talk my email address is skysmama77@yahoo.com.by the way if you do decide to email me, try to remind me of what we talked about here. i have alot of people emailing me and sometimes its hard to remember whos who.

No offense to everyone here, but the question of whether you need antidepressants is one that should be answered by a medical or mental health professional. And I'm not one of them =)

That said, I agree with what many others have said. With what you're describing, it sounds like a good idea to talk to someone about it. Even a family doctor should be able to evaluate you and give a prescription.

That said, I've been told that people with depression respond the best to a combination of anti-depressants and therapy. If you work outside the home, ask if there is an employee assistance program (EAP) available - those programs will offer some free or low-cost counseling sessions.

The most important thing to realize, I think, is that you don't have to settle for feeling this way. I hope you're feeling better soon.

I could have written what you wrote during several bouts with depression...no reason for it; just the chemicals in your body are for some reason out of balance and it produces an almost "listless" way of life - for no reason other than chemistry. Often times, stress, fatigue and other factors can "set off" the normal balance in your body, but the result is depression. If you can muster the strenth to walk for about 30 min. per day, that is a good start; however, I definitely recommend seeing a doctor. When I began taking medication for depression, the doctor said "it will take a few weeks to feel better." A small dose is what they give you at first, but if you feel no different, go back soon or call your doctor and ask for an adjustment in the milligrams. When I got the milligrams right, it was like overnight - i was back to my old self. Being a mother is stressful at best - even if you love every minute of it. But like I said - what you wrote, I could have penned myself. If you can get over the stigma of taking medication, it can provide good help. I've taken Celexa and other medications and had good results - when they got the mg.s to the right level. Good luck to you. MANY women in the US take medication so don't feel guilty. Like they say on the airplane "Mothers of young children, please put the oxygen mask on yourself and THEN on your child." That means that if we don't save ourselves, we can't take care of anyone else! Take care of yourself. I've SOOO been where you are and there is help through medication.

I suffer from depression and you have many of the symptoms. I agree with mandymay that you should see a doctor. But, make an appointment with a Psychiatrist, rather than your family doc.
Their knowledge of the meds is much better, and they can get you on the most effective treatment quicker.
And remember it's very important to be comfortable with your doctor. If you don't like the vibe, try another. The right treatment can make a world of difference.
Hope you start feeling better real soon.

Sorry to hear that you feel so terrible. There's no shame in feeling depressed. You should consult a counsellor or psychologist and they will recommend whether or not you need medication, or perhaps some therapy.

Sometimes, you can be depressed because of physical reasons such as not enough sleep (or quality of sleep), or chemical imbalances, so it's best to consult a doctor as well for a general checkup.

Hope you feel better soon.

You might need a low level anti-depressant, but first YOU need to get to a doctor, even if it is your GP. Don't try to diagnose this or ask for a specific script, let the doc do that. I just spent two months weaning myself off a low level anti-depressant. I now do a few things like get in the sun light for at least 20 minutes a day....it really helps.

Well, there is a difference between feeling depressed and having depression.

Clinical depression is when you have had it for a long time, so if you have felt this way for awhile (which it sounds like you have) then I would suggest you see a professional.

As for anti-depressants, that is quite possible, but they are only a form of controlling it, you will not be cured, that requires work on your part.

So see a professional.

You may want to see someone that specializes in mental health such as a counselor, psychologist, or psychiatrist. You may benefit from something like short-term cognitive/behavioral therapy and/or anti-depressant drugs. There are many factors specific to you that the practitioner needs to consider before recommending any treatment which we cannot do here. Keep your chin up

I would just like to start by saying i know what it is like cause i am on anti-depressants right now and it's very hard being depressed when your only 16. You would have to see a doctor to know what treatment is right for you cause it's different with everyone.

No one here can answer that question.
You need to see your doctor who would need to eliminate any physical reason for how you are feeling. If the doctor feels that you are depressed he and only he can recommend which anti depressant to take.

Please make an appointment asap
