I just finished watching VH1's 100 greatest 80's songs and just couldn't believe the number one song. It sucks. Come on I like Bon Jovi but "Livin on a Prayer is is certainly not the best song of the 80's not even in the top 100. Let's have have our own little vote. What's your favorite 80's song?

I'd have to say
Maste of Puppets
Metallica

I was surprised it was Bon Jovi, but wasn't disappointed. I expected it to be Thriller or Like a Virgin...something more "pop". I was happy Def Leppard, Bon Jovi & GNR were near the top. I think the "hair bands" were the best part of the 80's and I guess I was just glad they were well represented.

The 80's pretty much sucked overall as a good music decade after the U.S. music artist strike forced the major record lables to promote "hot" U.K. bands that really tanked ( Dexy's Midnight Riders, Madhouse....etc). Of the scores of U.K. bands, we really liked works from INXS, Duran Duran and Men At Work.

What really soured with these "scab" bands are the TONS of one-hit wonders from bands like Big Country, Midnight Oil and Talk Talk.

And lets be point blank about it: the major lables were embarrassed too; had the strike never happened, Bon Jovi (one of the few American acts to defy the strike) wouldn't have been anywhere near as popular as they became.

So the U.K. idea was scrapped--and more focus on Heavy Metal was hoped to be the key fix. But that fizzed with the birth of the 90's--which wasn't any better.....and sadly the emergence of the "2k" era isn't ushering in any relief, either. Sorry, campers!

So I'll close with my suggestion for top 80s song: "Time (the Clock of my Heart)" by Boy George. This song was smooth, classy and savvy, for it to come from the U.K.

my fav 80's song is a little obscure. It's "Missing You" by John Waite, but I bet you'll never find it on a top anything countdown.

I'd have to say Earth A.D. by the Misfits. Bands today are still trying to copy the Misfits style.
