I don't know how tall you are, but if you are overweight, EVERYTHING I have read says you should try to lose weight before you concieve to get to a normal weight. If you lose too much though you would be putting the baby at risk...you don't want a low birthweight baby. But if you are overweight then by all means, go on a healthy diet and excercise program so you can be the healthiest you can be before concieving...that way you will get less varicose veins, less stretch marks, less leg cramps, etc...

Good luck!! Nothing wrong with the new weigh, what is important now is, if you want to have a baby, check with your doctor if after losing your weigh you still in your top health, because is important to be healthy before pregnancy and the extra pounds that you gain with the pregnancy depends of how much carefully you monitor your food intake and the gain weigh will be off as soon as you have your baby.

Don't lose too much that you are unhealthy to be pregnant. Every woman is different, but what matters is the baby, talk to your OB/GYN what the best weight for you and your baby. If I remember correctly the docs say the "ideal" weight to gain while with child is 30 to 35 pounds. But again EVERY woman is different. As far as losing it afterwards...are you kidding you'll have a newborn and soon a toddler to chase around..trust me that burns those calories right off! Congrats to you when you do have your baby!

Actually, that won't work unless you wait at least 6 months at the new weight. I lost 15 lbs 3 months before I got pregnant and within the first month and a half put the 15 lbs back on. I was horrified and my OB told me it was because my body had needed more time to adapt to the new weight. She said I was doomed to immediately put it right back on and would have had to keep it off for at least 6 months prior to getting pregnant.

Good Idea, pregnancy is much safer when you are in shape plus it makes labor much easier. Just don't get too thin, my OB told me to put on weight all 3 times ( I weigh 100) I could never manage to put on much though

If you are of the correct weight prepregnancy you should have a easier uncomplicated pregnany. I am overweight and really wish I had lost weight as the doctors seemed to be worried I have a high BMI.

well, i'd say just be careful, because you don't want to lose so much that you place your baby's and your life in danger. i think it would be best to maybe talk to a nutritionist? or simply try to eat healthy during your pregnancy so that you don't gain an unhealthy amount of wait, and can still get rid of it afterwards (safer it seems) than before.

baby weight is still going to be hard to lose. losing weight now i dont think will effect that.. however, its always best to be your healthiest when you concieve anyway , so no, it cant hurt any.. how much weight do you want to lose? how tall are you? 140 sounds like a reasonably healthy weight, unless you are unusually short?

There's nothing wrong w/ wanting to get in better shape before a pregnancy, that way, not only is it easier to carry the child, but labor is "easier" and you're right, you have less to lose later.
