I love the smooth sound of Gibson guitars myself.

If I had to decide between Fender and Gibson (and ONLY those choices), it would totally depend on what kind of music I was playing.

Country/western, I would choose rythmn on a big box Gibson and lead on a Fender Telecaster

Jazz, I would choose an old Gibson Birdland.

For rock and roll, the Gibson Les Paul is a pretty good guitar for back up on vocals and some leads (even Brian Setzer from Stray Cats uses a big Gibson or Gretsch), but the Fender Stratocaster still is a cut above all else when it comes to straight up rock. Look at people like Stevie Ray Vaughn and Jimi Hendrix. These folks could afford ANY guitar they'd want, but they chose a Fender Strat.

A classic sound, like oldies rock and roll or rythmn and blues could go with a late 60's model Fender Jaguar or a big Gibson arch top.

It all depends on what sound you are looking for and what kind of music you're gonna play.

Whatever kind of music you do, whatever guitar you're gonna play, just keep the music going!

Which model Gibson and which model Fender? Assuming you're comparing Les Pauls to Stratocasters, it's like comparing apples to oranges. You really can't, because they're so different. It totally depends on what style of music I would be playing and the tone I was looking for. If I were just sitting around playing with no amp, I would play a Les Paul simply because I prefer the feel of the neck.

Fender Strat

Fender. They're just more versatile guitars...Gibsons are alright, but they have a naturally 'dirty' sound to them -particularly SG's. Hard to get a clean tone with a Gibson, solidbody, anyway. Fenders are lighter and easier to play; their necks aren't like treetrunks!

When I was younger, I would have said Fender, but now I really appreciate the rich tone of a Les Paul. Also, Zappa played a Les Paul.

Gibson, you just can't beat the sustain of a Les Paul

well well what a question...i Myself hate Les pauls, but i do like Gibson Sg's ( frank marino plays them and they don't weight as heavy as a Volkswagen bug).. I do like Fender Fat boy strats and the original 1954 strats...great sound...

but there are alot better company that make better guitars......Schecter, Warwick, Music man, and Taylor....
