Ricky Martin has been around longer and may be Older. He is more well known but not doing as well now. He had a higher peek of popularity.
Shakira is still working, she is just now getting known because of Cell Phone companies and Yahoo! Advertisement. Yes, she exsisted before,.. but noone seemed to know who she was,.. now after a couple years of her being played in so many advertisements awareness has risen.
Still Ricky Martin beats her because he had a song on the Radio make him well known by EVERYONE. Not a ton of advertizements for products, like what is happening with Shikira.

It's definitely Shakira. She has broken tons of records - "La Tortura" was the very first Spanish-language video to enter regular rotation on MTV, and "Hips Don't Lie" is the most played pop song in history. She also has a record for the longest time at the top of the Latin Billboard; she's in Guiness for that. And she just won 5 Latin Grammys the other day :-D She is amazing, and she has been around a LONG time.

it used to be ricky martin. Now i think he has sort of disappeared from the surface of the earth. It should be shakira.
