it's JUST balancing

Lets see, the Cl in ClO4- is in the +7 state and is reduced to the zero oxidation state, but a chloride takes in HCL is in -1 state.

Al goes from zero oxidation state to +3

The N in NH4+ goes from -3 to -2, this makes things extra confusing .

So I ended up just balancing it without thinking about the redox reactions.

4NH4CLO4 + 5/3 AL---> 2HCL + Cl2+ 4NO + (5/3)Al2O3 + 7H20

12NH4CLO4 + 5AL -->6HCL + 3Cl2 +12NO + 5Al2O3 + 21 H20

This looks balanced but whether the oxidation states make sense I don't know.

this may well be a redox difficulty (a million) chop up into 2 0.5 reactions (2) stability all atoms to boot H and O (3) balance H and O with H2O and H+ stability oxygen first (4) balance costs with electrons, 1e=-a million (5) be sure electrons cancel out while 2 a million/2 reactions are recombined i might circulate including Abe, sorry

This is a redox problem
(1) split into two half reactions
(2) balance all atoms except H and O
(3) Balance H and O with H2O and H+
Balance oxygen first
(4) Balance charges with electrons, 1e=-1
(5) make sure electrons cancel out when two half reactions are recombined

I would go with Abe, sorry

Here you go,

(8)NH4ClO4+(6)Al=
(2)HCL+(3)Cl2+(8)NO
+(3)Al2O3+(15)HOH

Sorry for some reason it wouldn't fit in one line but it is correct.

6NH4ClO4 + 12Al --> 2HCl + 2Cl2 + 6NO + 6Al2O3 + 11HOH

I think this is balanced, you should check to be sure.
