Depends on the bird. Theres Raven and Thunderbird just to name a couple. Raven is the Trickster and Thunderbird is a messanger and terrifying. There is also Firebird. Not only the type of bird but also the Native American tribes can each have different meanings to the different birds.

Thunder bird bringer of Rain -- owl can be either a harbinger of death or a bringer of life - Eagle takes Prayers from man to THE GREAT MYSTERY - a few more you might also try to research specific tribes as there were over 500 Nations and many had different meanings for the same bird such as the owl mentioned above.

there r way 2 many indian tribes 4 anyone 2 be sure , u shud b more specific as 4 india mythology ( which also is so vast ) there is no specific meaning of a bird, y do u ask ? ( by the way im talkin abt the asian country india)

it really depends on the specific bird totem. and they can be hard to tell apart.
