One US ton is 2000 pounds. Now what was the question?

A ton of nails may be slightly heavier. While both items might have the same mass, and hence, the same amount of gravitational attraction, steel nails are ferromagnetic and will be attracted to the Earth's magnetic field. This may cause the nails to appear to weigh slightly more, since the magnetic force adds to the gravitational force..

You are so awesome.
Perhaps you would ask which has the most volume?! ..A ton vs.a ton...hmmm each weighs the same so I will have to say neither. in this trick question the nails equal the cottons heaviness.
