Elf in the 70's
Rainbow in the 70's
Black Sabbath & DIO in the late 70's and till the 90's.
During the 80's he went back to Black Sabbath for a couple albums and then to DIO again.
Great singer, I prefered him in his own band DIO, but Ronnie was as good in all the other bands as well.

Rainbow....until for unclear reasons, he left the band. Rainbow returned---and quickly evaporated---from the music scene with Dio's replacement frontman, who failed to make the grade.

Dio evidently gathered an audience while in Rainbow, and those loyal fans followed his solo career with keen interest. Note on Dio's album, "Holy Diver", he wrote a clever play of his strifes with Rainbow--noted in the song "Rainbow In The Dark".

Heavy Metal purists give Dio the honor as being the Godfather Of Metal.
