She was a real icon, a real beauty, sex-kitten/sex-symbol, and actress of comedy. Although her acting skills can be debated, her beauty is one that stands out through time. She was born Norma Jean, but changed her name to get into acting. She started posing top nude for calendars and pictures to be sent to army boys in wars and she became very desired after. She was married then divorced because her husband was a loser.

When she was younger, she made a list of all the men she ever wanted to sleep with. she fulfilled her list, I would think
**) Some speculate she enticed JFK and he was also on the list.

She as like a james dean, except sexier and she really made a mark on women's attire/dress. Her style has been copied over and over! And it still works. Her body was beautiful and in the 50's, natural belly curves were part of the feminine physique, so she had some fat padding on her belly too, but everyone thought her body was just the best. Now, the ideal is flat abs, but big boobs...

She was a symbol for women to be: sexy and a sex-symbol who brought the image of the sexy blonde to the silver screen. She really epitomized the "blonde" look and all the expectations desired by men, that the girl be not too intelligent so they can easily access her, etc.

She had a miserable life wrought with multiple affairs, pains, and drinking, smoking, and taking drugs (prescription and otherwise). She really was never "rich" and the home she died in due to drug overdose (most likely) was not a good house. But anyway, she was a great icon and there is none like her, who enchanted men with a 5'2" frame and curvy, bouncy look.
She wasn't entirely natural--she died her hair, the bottle-blond, which had a following. She had her nose bobbed from a very nice looking nose to a bobby, less intelligence but more seductive look. she also reduced the sharp point of her chin to a softer, rounder appearance.

Marilyn monroe is famous for her ability to flirt with simply her eyelashes. She really perfected the flirt and smile. She used to be quite innocent looking, but later throughout her career, she could pose more sexy looks. She is a great icon because she looked so innocent, yet so sexy.

It's hard to explain, but there was something different about her that just cllicked to some people. Her early attempts at acting were terrible and most producers for movies were unimpressed and didn't cast her. Yes, Marilyn slept around, but that didn't help her in her early career. In fact, it hindered her because people thought of her merely as a "party girl", which is a loose term for a prostitute. However, Marilyn made some money doing little cameos and other small roles as a contract player for Fox. She saved up her money and took acting and singing lessons to improve her craft. She did probe herself as an actress in a few thrillers but she ended being typecast as a dumb blonde, even though her intellligence was astounding according to some reports. What made people pay attention to her was her personality and charm. She knew how to get what she wanted. Also, when she was naturally gifted at being a model, she knew how to exude sexuality. That translated into her filmwork and at the time, being sexual was considered exciting and contrvoersial. That's what made her a star.

Marilyn Monroe became the standard of all women. she wasn't a typical blonde. She was very intelligent and very beautiful..... in some cases intelligence and natural beaty is a deadly combination. It was rumoured that she had an affair with President Kennedy and while that was never proven to be factual, it fueled the fire of her stature. So yeah, Marilyn was very much ahead of her time. and because it was the 1950's, most 'decent' people thought her a indecent person. Women wanted to be her and men wanted her.
