I was an assistant manager of a movie theater, and the movie is normally played even though no one bought any tickets. But sometimes, movie watchers will arrive late and expect to see their movie. When I worked there, we'd get surprise visits from the corporate heads, and we have to make sure everything is running.

Not in the theaters around here. In fact, I used to live in a small town where they wouldn't run the movie unless they sold five (5) tickets.
One time, I went with a friend and there were only four (4) of us there so I bought the fifth (5th) ticket just so the 4 of us could see the film.

I worked at a theatre for a few years sometime ago and yes we ran the movie despite nobody being in the theatre to see it. I have walked into several theatre places where the movie was in progress but nobody was there to watch it, so I took my hour lunch watching movies and eating..lol

I believe so... What if a bunch of people arrive late and expect to see the movie they wanted to see LOL
And I suppose it'd be too late to play any other movie in replacement anyway... So it's not like they're losing money or anything!
It happened a bunch of times that my friend and I ended up alone in the theater... and I always thought it was kind of cool that the movie was playing just for us ;)

before i start lying, ill say that it is probably dependent on many variables, but the ones we have here (in central arkansas) will play them. first, you have to take in account what kind of system they have for playing the movie, wether its automated or manual (meaning the movie automatically plays on time). two, you have the time (busy season/time of day as compared to off season/time of day). also, they more than likely need to becos someone might be the only one seeing the movie for that time and they arive late, so the movie has to start on time so it doesnt run late for the late-comer. the reason i say this is becos there have been times ive casually walked by one and looked in to see how the movie was, and there was no one there. so i do know that obviously it does happen. i cant say how frequently, however.

Yes, because they advertise it is showing at a certain time, so if someone came in late it should be playing. I have been to 3 matinees and I was the only one in there and it was playing before I sat down, as well many are automatically started on timers.

no they don't, a recent movie alex stormer or somthiing like that was canceled because it was so bad and noone bouught tickets. To keep it a theater would cost money and be bad for the teater. Unless you go to small movie theaters where no one buys tickets any way.

i once asked a manager about this and they told me it is the rules.. No matter what, the movie has to be played. In case someone walks in later on and still wants to see it. They have no ability to predict a later comer.
