I guess I should've been more clear in my last question. My landlord IS a sex offender and he got his offense for being with a minor. I didn't know he was until after I moved in and had already signed my lease. Can he evict me for telling someone when they have a right to know.I know all of this for a fact.

He cannot evict you for this. It is A LAW that all sex offenders and sexual predators must register with the police department where they live. This information is public record. Anyone can go online, pull up the sex offenders for their area, and see photos of the people in addition to an overview of their offense/s and their status. You have not broken any laws by discussing a matter of public record with anyone else, and you surely have not violated your lease agreement, either.

HOWEVER - do you really want to continue renting from this man? It may be a possibility that he will attempt to make your life uncomfortable if he perceives you as a thorn in his side (even though HE is the one who did something VERY wrong). When you look at the big picture, you may realize that it would be better to cut your losses and move on.

I would suggest that, if you take this route, that you send your landlord a certified, return-receipt-requested letter, advising him that you are moving out on such&such date, and that he can use your security deposit for the last month's rent. In the letter, tell him that you are uncomfortable doing business with someone who has a background such as his. I highly doubt that he will attempt to hold you to the entire lease, but, if he threatens to take you to court, tell him to go right ahead. If he is stupid enough to actually do this, there isn't a judge in the world who would side with him - AS LONG AS YOU HAVE NOTIFIED HIM IN WRITING OF YOUR INTENTIONS AND WHY.

Most important is to remember to send the letter certified, return receipt requested. It is the only thing a judge will accept as proof that the landlord was properly notified, and is well worth the buck or so that it costs.

If, for whatever reason you choose to stay there, I think you are going to have issues with this landlord. Just a hunch.

If I had a sex-offender landlord, I would seek help thru the city or county landlord/tenant board and get my lease voided. He can make life so miserable for you that you will want to leave, so keep the landlord/tenant board in mind. If you leave without giving him 30 days notice, you may be held liable in a court. If you have a legal lease, he cannot evict you without due cause, and telling someone something about him is not due cause. If you pay the rent on time and don't cause problems, how can he legally evict you? (personally, I would let him do it.Evict, I mean.)

No, he can't evict you for saying anything about him, even if you were wrong. He can sue you for slander, but not evict you. Just the same, I'd make REAL certain that you stick to every letter of your lease until you can find a way to move, ASAP.

By the way, you need to be careful with sex offender information. Some of the states have very broad definitions of "sex offender". Here in Michigan there are cases of boys on the list who were convicted at the age of 17, for having consentual sex with their 15 year old girlfriends. Stupid, yes - Branded as a criminal forever, I don't think so.

He can try to evict you but once it goes to court the judge is going to ask him for the reason and he has to be truthful. You will need to bring in your wittness that you told this to. The judge will most likely throw it out but your landlord can make your life hell. I would ask him if you can break your lease and move if he won't let you and makes your life hell then you have a legal right to break your lease.

Unfortunately, this scumbag can evict you for any reason he wishes. He just has to follow the correct procedures which could take a while.

It is not a crime to let people know that he is a sex offender, I think that everyone should know. I think you should just move and save yourself some time and frustration.
