I got my girlfriend pregnant who is 16 and im 18. We had sex when i was 17. Unfortunately the condom didnt work for some reason. She is one month. Her dad wants her to abort and im totally against it. She doesnt want to abort. Her dad gave me the choice of either paying for the abortion or him callin the cops for her bein a minor. My parents and i are totally against it so we stick to our belief and not pay for it. I live in florida. I chose to not pay for cuz its my child and i want it. Now that he is gonna call the cops, im jus waitin here for them to come. I want to know wat are the laws for me bein 18 and she 16, but we did it when i was 17. We want to have the baby and her parents want to force her to abort it. I want to stop the abortion. What can i do to prevent the abortion? Also will i go to jail even tho i didnt do it when ive been 18. Give me information and opinions please. Thank You.

To address your questions.

Jail: You're gonna skate (will be OK). Small investigation, probing questions, as long as the math works out, maybe a court appearance, not to worry.

Abortion: I commend you for doing the right thing. However, he parents may be able to legally force an abortion -- despite the Terry Shalvo (sp?) case. You want to avoid that, abscund. After the baby's born, they can't kill it. But if she/you can get a probono atty to file a motion, they can delay action long enough to the point where it's illegal to abort.

Future: Apparently your parents are willing to help out, and you'll both be needing help raising the child. Children don't strengthen new relationships for more than a few months. They actually strain them. But you can be OK. Love and support help.

My opinion: File a motion asap. Courts are notoriously useful for slowing things down. Stop, pray, and realize the courageous young girl whose life you are about to radically change.

You are the older and wiser of the two and you gambled on that condom and lost. It's up to you to ensure that this change is for the better. And you can. Good luck young man.

Did you just turn 18? If she got pregnant when you were 17, and you can prove that you slept together when you were 17 and not 18 (by her getting pregnant when you were 17), then I wouldn't think the cops could do anything. I also think that in some states there's an age difference, like 18 year old are allowed to sleep with 17 year olds (and it may go to 16) without it being considered statutory rape. I could be wrong though. Try doing a search on your state's statutory rape laws.

And I have to say I'm proud of you that you don't want her to have an abortion. There are a LOT of guys out there who aren't willing to take the responsibility of a baby. So I hope you're really proud of yourself for being a man.

The cops cant do anything considering that you were only 17 at the time. If you were 18 at the time then they can charge you. But if you both agreed on having sex and you both knew what the chances were then they probably wont do anything. I am not sure as to what you can do in trying to stop the abortion. But I am not one that believes in it either unless a person is raped. But her dad can not force her to do something that she doesn't want to do. If she is forced she is more likely to run away b/c she knows that she doesn't has the support from her family. I wish you all the best and good luck

You can check the laws in your state...some states are 17, some 18. They go by the age you were when the "felony" if it was, was committed.

PLEASE do all you can to keep her from an abortion, I am sooooo proud you stood up for that and even though they are threatening the cops WAY TO GO! You are a great man! God bless you! I hope you learned from this and now move on to more mature decisions as you have a child to raise.

unless it's against the law in fla to have sex when your 17 you should be fine. Most people can do the math. And once again i don't know what the laws are in fla but i'm pretty sure that she has the right to deside if she wants the baby or not. Most states give the rights to the girl if she is 16, i think. you should look at your local and state laws to see what they are. i'm sure there are plenty of websites to go to. you could even call a lawyer just to ask those questions. i would get your parents to do it though (they might take them a little more serious)

i'm 21 and i'm way too young and immature to have a baby so there is no way either of you are ready to support this child. yes i know its YOUR child and you may well love it better than any "adult parent" out there but financially do you really think you can handle it, you should be going to college and finishing high school not working your butts off at mickey dees wonderin the whole time if your baby will have enough to eat. i think her dad is just trying to make you see this and help her, maybe not you, but he definatly loves his daughter. Also, its her body and when i was 16 i was very independent but if i got pregnant form an older man i would have probably agreed with him on what "my " feelings were so please remember that she is young and its her body, make sure she really doesn't want an abortion and is not just saying it b/c of you. B/c, if that is what she is doing you are going to have a very rocky relationship at some point and do you really want your child to grow up with a bunch of yelling and fighting?

Think carefully about it. Abortion is bad, though if you really had the kid, do you think it would be better? Keep in mind, she is only 16. You are now an adult, but she's not a legal adult yet. Although legally, your share of the responsibility is heavier, but physically, mentally, and socially, she's the one with the sack of rocks. Have you ever though about the fact that if you had a kid, she's going to have a 1-2 year child when she actually turns into an adult? You have to understand her father too, what if suddenly one day you just disappeared? Who's gonna take responsibility of the kid?

For now, you can only kick yourself for buying cheap condom...

if your were 17 there is no way that any charges would stick. You would have had to be 18 at that time. I admire you for not wanting to give in to abortion. not many teenagers would step up and take the responsibility. good for you. Hang in there and fight it and raise your child the best way that you can. life is a precious thing and you created it... good luck to you.

If you were both minors when it happened, you are NOT going to jail. So, don't worry about that. Also, if your girlfriend doesn't want to have an abortion, her parents CAN'T force her to. It's not legal. So, as long as you convince your girlfriend not to give in, you guys should be okay. I admire you guys for not wanting to abort.

Well they can't force her to abort it, that's her choice. And I'm sure you'll be fine if they call the cops your guna hafta go to court and **** but they're not guna lock you up. You might get probation or something but nothing too bad. You have nothing to worry about and good luck with the baby!
